Early History
Xa Juyaay (He who follows the signs of a brightness) was originally of the Haida peoples, was once the lead shaman of his peoples of Gw'ii Haida (Queen Charlotte Island.) The Haida were known as the fierce hunting tribes; known as the vikings of the area known in the language of the invaders as British Columbia, and have been as far to see the areas known as "California". However, he is disgraced by his people. Upon seeing a sailing ship flying a flag of blue, red and white; he decided to let them be, as opposed to doing what the elders recommended; to forcefully repel the invasion. He knew that there was not much but flowing ice to the west; whatever peoples could be from there would probably be very strong indeed; he would rather see what they would do instead of flying into battle (As the story goes; the Raven is black because it didn't know fire and got too close). The British came; but only to fetch water and supplies and to head further east. What they did leave was disease; and his village was ill prepared for it. Even though he tried to heal his people; it was because of him that they did nothing to the interlopers. A shame (in the shape of a wolf) totem was erected and the remaining elders decided that this was his time to leave.
Name & Goals
-
He picked John Smith as a Western name, finding a place in the League, and picked the name of John for everybody's sake. He sees the nature that still lives in the City and around it, and is in tune with it. He accepts that the whiteys are here to stay (There's no point in trying to stop the tide) and he is trying to see a balance between them; as he is neither. He dispises vampires, he still believes (with some correctness) that the ghoulish things are what killed the peoples and thier foulness is what afflicted his village.
Emma Luclass
On his journeys east, he encountered the sko-ko-mish (Squamish) peoples, of whom his wife was from; as sign of peace from a brief skirmish three years before. He came to the village, of which there was a fury of activity. What was the old forest was now a barren contraption of cold stone on planks laid in lines; the CPR had arrived. the people were on the move, the land was no longer good, and they had lost people to they white man. However, due to his disposed state, he was not going to receive him as a brother; not without some sign of brotherhood. He decided to take revenge.
In the dark of one night; he found Emma - a strange one at that, not a 'man' per say, but whe took care of other white(er) men - ghastly forms, twisted of human nature - which looked out to eat her! watching from the trees, he saw her fend off the "vampires" as he later found out, but she was in a weakened state. He couldn't bring himself to kill her, she fought the whiteys as much as he hated them. As she rested that night, he decided that she was not an enemy, and decided to help her; healing her wounds through the night and standing watch as she rested.
The next morning was interesting indeed. Xa couldn't make sense of this strange woman; but was intrigued and decided to learn about her language, so he followed her; despite her initial ill will; for many quests it seems.
